Abstract

Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is a field of study that encompasses six fundamental pillars: sleep, nutrition, physical activity, substance use, stress management and interpersonal relationships. Recent research has pointed to an important relationship between LM and Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases. These connections gain even more relevance in the context of fetal development, a period of high susceptibility to harmful environmental and metabolic agents, which can contribute to the development of neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This study aims to analyze the relationship between Lifestyle, ASD and pregnancy, and identify the characteristics of the SEM approach in current scientific literature. This is an integrative literature review of articles published between 2012 and 2022, selected from the bibliographic databases PubMed, Scielo, Medline and LILACS. A total of 12 articles were selected. It was observed that the relationship between ASD and maternal lifestyle was addressed, with an important influence on the outcome of the offspring. The studies analyzed point to the main contributors to this relationship being high-fat diets poor in micronutrients, a sedentary lifestyle and exposure to pollutants and tobacco, agents that significantly affect different stages of neurological development. The data obtained pointed to an important relationship between dietary factors, physical activities and exposure to harmful substances and the development of ASD, however the studies do not address the pillars of LM in full, so that new work with greater methodological rigor needs to be carried out for the adequate inference of these results.
