SLEEP QUALITY OF PEOPLE ON HEMODIALYSIS

Introduction: People with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis experience several changes in their daily lives, which are capable of altering the quality of their sleep. Objective: To analyze the quality of sleep of people on hemodialysis. Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive research, carried out with a sample of 104 patients in a hemodialysis clinic in the interior of Espírito Santo. Inclusion criteria: time since admission to the clinic of at least 12 months; age over 18 years old. Exclusion criteria: hospitalized patients. Data were collected through interviews, in October/2022, using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The absolute and relative frequency of responses to the questionnaire items was calculated, with the help of SPSS statistical software. CEP opinion no. 5,454,225. Results: Half of the patients rated sleep quality as good sleep (50%; n=52); As for Latency, 60.5% (n=63) took more than 30 minutes to sleep none or less than once a week; regarding sleep duration, 51.9% (n=54) sleep 7 or less hours per day; 50% (n=52) have habitual sleep efficiency greater than 85%; 51.9% (n=54) have a sleep disorder one or more times a week; 73.1% (n=76) do not use sleeping medication; and 52.9% (n=55) did not manifest daytime sleepiness and disturbances during the day. Conclusion: The absence of the use of sleeping medications was the best evaluated component of sleep quality, followed by latency. The other components require intervention to promote improvements in sleep quality.References
